• A Share Thanksgiving ‘thanks.’

    Veronica ShoreAlways hungry.

“During these deliveries, I saw tears of joy and hope.”

As the Market Manager for Savannah and Valdosta in Georgia, John Kessler works every day to ensure his delivery customers receive an amazing experience. But his experience from Share Thanksgiving is one he won’t soon forget—it even led to a new hire! We asked John to share a little bit about it here:

How would you describe your role in bringing Share Thanksgiving to life?

“I worked with many restaurants that were willing to prepare food for needy families, and I coordinated the deliveries to ensure the food was hot.”

What was your most memorable moment from doing Share Thanksgiving?

“Delivering meals to a retired veteran and his family. He had recently retired and was having a difficult time finding a job to help support his young family. I looked at him and said, “You need a job? Do you want to work for Waitr?” He responded that he would certainly work for Waitr, so I hired him on the spot! He just started right now as I’m sharing this story, and completed his first delivery!”

What does Share Thanksgiving mean to you personally?

“Honestly, I was not looking forward to doing the coordination at first. However, that all changed as I saw so many drivers join the cause to help others. One driver who volunteered had just suffered the loss of her grandmother, and she was out there to help others! During these deliveries, I saw tears of joy and hope. One mother said she wakes up every day wondering what she’s going to feed her children. It made me feel bad that I was hesitant in the beginning, because now I’m so glad I did it. I realized how much a little help means to people, and how we can make a big difference.”

Our customers nominated, we donated. In a joint effort with our amazing local restaurant partners, together we delivered more meals during Thanksgiving week to families in need than ever before.

Our goal was to donate 4,000 meals, and we’re pleased to announce we were able to deliver 5,591 meals across 52 markets where we serve.

From the bottom of our hearts, a huge thank you to all who participated!

Serving our communities and customers with love.
