    Legal Assistant

    Houston, TX Full-Time

    Founded in 2013 and based in Lafayette, Louisiana, Waitr is a leader in on-demand food ordering and delivery. Waitr, along with Bite Squad connect local restaurants to hungry diners in underserved U.S. markets. Together they are a convenient way to discover, order and receive great food from local restaurants, national chains and grocery stores. As of June 30, 2020, Waitr and Bite Squad operated in small and medium sized markets in the United States in over 600 cities.

    As a key member of the legal team , this position works directly with our internal and external counsel to prepare for upcoming cases, lead fact-finding projects and maintain and organize case files.This position is a unique combination of paralegal and executive assistant responsibilities. The ideal candidate for this position is organized, professional, responsible, and committed to helping us meet all of our internal and external partner needs.

    Essential Functions 

    • Support the legal team with various administrative and support duties
    • Proactively manage the Legal Department’s calendars, including scheduling meetings, arranging meeting spaces and services while anticipating challenges and conflicting priorities as well as helping to navigate the requests with a calm sense of responsibility
    • Prepare general correspondence, memoranda, and legal documents as well as maintain confidential files, records and report
    • Process invoices and review various accounting records and monthly expense reports ensuring accuracy
    • Maintain and follow-up regarding task lists assigned by the legal team
    • Perform general clerical work such as data entry and maintenance, filing, ordering supplies, answering phones, etc.
    • Partner with HR leadership in preparing discovery and discovery responses
    • Document management
    • Preparing for depositions

    Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree and/or a paralegal certificate from an ABA approved paralegal program
    • 5+ years of litigation support experience
    • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced group
    • Google Suite features
    • Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally, as to communicate with employees and members of the HR management team.
    • Must possess strong interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of court rules
    • Proficiency in paper and e-filing (state and federal) and 
    • Knowledge of court websites and research skills

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, typically 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    Very limited travel possible if business needs arise.
